Looks like the 80D doesn't like the same cards that worked fine in my 70D (and 6D, too). So I finally bought a new card (128 GB) of that brand and its been working just fine for a while now. Finally, i found yet another card and noticed it did much better in the 80D. So i swapped cards with my 70D and the problem kept happening. I almost instantly noted a lot of strange behavior with the card. When i got my 80D i put in the same card i was using in my 70D. My 80D freeze-up was definitely caused by either a faulty or unformatted SD card. SanDisk have been having some issues recently. ![]() Start by testing another brand of SD card. ![]() Is there anything user-correctable in the field that can prevent further LCD malfunctions? Really want to milk whatever use he can get out of the camera for the next few weeks. Unfortunately the wi-fi at his location cut out just as I was going to ask him about focus settings (we were talking via Skype), so that can't be eliminated as a cause for the shutter button. However, the shutter button does not always work. Removing and reinserting the battery (Canon brand) helped some. He is using the 18-55mm and 55-250mm STM lenses that came with his Costco kit and fast Sandisk memory cards. My son called from Namibia to tell me that his 80D has been locking up.
